Care Packages
Trinity started a Military Family Support Group in February 2003 for families and friends of service personnel. We meet every Monday evening and one Saturday a month to offer support to each other and to do what we can for our family and friends as they serve our country.
We welcome anyone who has family members or friends serving in the US Military whether serving domestically or overseas to our meetings and anyone wishing to show support to our troops.
We meet every Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 in the Education Building at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1738 Galloway Avenue, located in the Evergreen Historic District in Mid-Town.
One of the hopes for our group is to help both the family here and the service person away from home in these highly stressful times, sharing ideas and ways to support our service members as well as their families.
As part of this ministry, the Family Support Group along with Trinity and our community have been sending ‘care packages’ every month to our troops serving our country. Our list has grown since we started from fewer than a dozen to more than seventy names and addresses. Included in each box are a few personnel items and some snack/food items.
We are currently working to send holiday packages for November and December to be mailed in October and November. This is where your help is needed. We continue to need money for postage. It has cost from $7 to $10 per box depending on the weight of each and we plan for the holiday packages to be larger and may cost from $10 to $12 per box to mail.
You may consider asking your work place, church, Sunday school class, school class or other organization or group that you belong to or attend to become involved in donating to this project. One person called for a list so her family could collect for our Troops instead of doing exchange gifts for each other. What a wonderful idea!!!
If you would like to help supply any of these items, donate money for boxes & postage to send the packages, and/or help with packing the boxes, please call at the church office (274-6895). We work on care packages at every meeting.
