Dream Team Report

JANUARY 2003

The Dream Team proposes that Trinity United Methodist Church adopt as our community the area bound by Union Avenue on the south, Cleveland/Watkins on the west, Vollentine on the north and East Parkway/Trezevant on the east.

The Dream Team recommends that Trinity United Methodist Church adopt the following long range plan for the five year period 2003 – 2007.

  1. From January 1, 2003 through June 30, 2004, Trinity will expand our corporate, dynamic worship by implementing the following objectives:
    1. Utilize more lively and contemporary music, including the use of additional instrumental music;
    2. Train laity for and encourage more diverse participation in worship service, including children, women and all age groups;
    3. Use of a variety of liturgies, employing visual aids where appropriate; and
    4. Establish alternative worship services. Those responsible: Pastor, Worship Committee, Creative Music Committee.
  2. From July 1, 2004 to December 31, 2006, strengthen our significant relational groups by achieving these objectives:
    1. Assimilate every member of Trinity in one or more significant relational group;
    2. Study needs for new relational groups; and
    3. Develop new groups. Those responsible: Pastor and Staff, Education Committee, Evangelism Committee, Creative Music, Laity Committee, Spiritual Development Committee.
  3. From January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2007, expand our competent programs and activities by developing the resources, programs and activities necessary to meet Trinity’s missional objectives and to expand our strengths. Those responsible: Council on Ministries, Administrative Board.
  4. From July 1, 2004 to December 31, 2006, establish an effective program for pastoral and lay visitation in the community by implementing these objectives:
    1. Develop a program for pastoral and lay visitation.
    2. Train laity for visitation.
    3. Develop a program to measure the effectiveness of Trinity’s visitation programs. Those responsible: Pastor, Evangelism Committee and Council on Ministries.
  5. From January 1, 2003 to December 31, 2004, develop specific, concrete missional objectives by doing the following in accordance with Trinity’s Mission Statement:
    1. Engage in mission to children and youth in and near our community;
    2. Engage in mission to the elderly in our community; and
    3. Work to establish peace in our community through economic justice.

Those responsible: Mission and Outreach Committee, Education Committee, Youth Director.

Trinity’s Mission Statement:

Proclaiming God’s love by building community and living by the example and teachings of Jesus Christ.
